APC PowerAudit® bridges the
gap between the National Electrical Code and the IEEE Standard 1100 (The
Emerald Book) Electricians are required by law to wire the specifications outlined in the National Electrical Code (NEC). The primary focus of the NEC is safety in the electrical environment. When it comes to operating computer equipment in a distributed environment, however, more rigorous standards are required for electrical distribution and grounding. That's why the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) created the IEEE Standard 1100-1992, "IEEE Recommended Practice for Powering and Grounding Sensitive Electronic Equipment." All too often, the electrician wiring a building has not had experience with this IEEE standard. In fact, in 100% of the field studies conducted by APC, the electrical environment even exhibited violations of the NEC! APC and its engineers are well-versed in both the NEC and the IEEE standards as they apply to networked computer equipment. Through PowerAudit®, we are able to bridge the gap between the baseline knowledge of the electrician and the defined standards for proper network operation. |
